The Albany IES Section is proud to present our October 2020 virtual AIA Presentation, Designing Interior Space with Indirect Lighting, presented by Chris Smith-Peterson with Ecosense Lighting.
Humans have evolved to prefer certain characteristics of light and interior spaces – we naturally gravitate towards and feel more comfortable in spaces that are coherent, that provide a clear view of how to move through them, that are well illuminated by full-spectrum light and where contrasts in light and colors are used to create emphasize what is most important, creating a visual hierarchy.
Indirect lighting makes use of the building’s interior envelope and volume to modulate, amplify, and balance lighting from various sources. A layered approach to the lighting of interior spaces, which incorporates a balance of direct and indirect lighting improves visual coherence and wayfinding; articulates and highlights architectural elements, and positively impacts health and productivity.
This course explores how indirect lighting can be used to improve the comfort level of a space and allow it to be used in multiple ways. Participants will learn lighting design techniques for optimizing the design of interior spaces by illuminating ceilings and walls, and by backlighting through translucent materials.
Webinar participants are eligible for one (1) IES Continuing Education Unit (CEU).

We’ll set-up a Virtual Zoom meeting for Thursday October 22th at 5:30PM, then share the screen with you.
Please let me know by October 1st if you’d like to participate.
The IES Street & Area Lighting Conference is the only conference of its kind dedicated to improving the outdoor lighting business of electric utilities and energy service companies. We continue to provide an open forum for end-users facing the same questions regarding relevant products for specific application, lighting controls, benchmarks from other users in the lighting community, and milestones reached by municipalities, utilities and DOT’s. We strive to maintain a small community feel, creating a great opportunity to network with industry peers through seminars with speaker Q+A, breakout sessions to discuss issues in-depth, an exhibit hall and many networking events with speakers and peers in a comfortable and open atmosphere.
Despite the disruption we are facing, the IES is excited to bring you the opportunity to participate in the SALC without having to leave your workspace. We will leverage our technology to disseminate valuable, relevant and timely content. We hope you find this virtual conference insightful, beneficial, and of the quality that you have come to expect from the IES.
