Starting his career with WAC Lighting, Brian grew, and cultivated, the Specification sales channel, with his time at Contech, Brian has been a vital  part of the commercial sales channel, and an active voice in product developments, and market knowledge.

Through technology and research, we can improve human health and performance through natural and electric lighting.  Circadian Lighting is not a product or a workplane, but a new design approach for human beings in a 3D environment.  Lighting should follow the sun, less intense and warmer at night to promote relaxation, restorative sleep, and a great tomorrow.  As Design Professionals we have an obligation to not only promote wellness but be able to utilize the tools and technologies available to improve the human condition.

  • Understand key lighting terms and the Factors of Visibility.
  • Review the visual and non-visual characteristics of natural light and electrical light including UV.
  • Define the critical lighting receptors in human beings and understand how this information is interpreted by human beings including Circadian Stimulus and Equivalent Melanopic Lux.
  • Describe the impact of light on human health on Circadian Rhythm, Well Being, Medical Applications, Lighting for the Elderly, Optical Radiation, Day Lighting.
  • Demonstrate the effect of light on human performance in Office, Retail, Hospitality, and Educational environments.
  • Discuss relevant health and sustainability programs including LEED, Green Globes, WELL, and the Living Building Challenge.
